    Default Theft from High School

    Location: Texas
    Age: 16

I was involved with a group who broke into our High School and stole 16 laptops. I came out of it with 3, disposed of them. The cops got involved and I just confessed to everything and told the whole story..

    So, yeah, I'm a rat.

The cops crapped around saying they'd cut a deal with whoever told first. (Which even I know it's just bull a lot of times.)

I want to know what's probably going to happen to me.. scenarios.

    School Pressing Charges
    Juvi
    Probation
    etc. etc...

I did a stupid thing, I'm sorry for it but it's over now.. I just need to know what to expect in court.. I haven't been able to contact my lawyer and I'm basically scared sh*tless.

    That's understandable.

First, try again to contact your lawyer. At this point we're not sure at what type of hearing you are scheduled to appear. Your lawyer should know, and should be able to let you know the typical procedure.

I would anticipate that you can expect the school to prosecute, and demand restitution. I do not know what sort of diversion programs or alternative sentencing options are available in Texas (thing that can help you avoid jail time and/or a record), but that is an issue you should discuss with your attorney.

If you were in Michigan, where I practice, I would tell you to expect at a minimum that you would be sentenced to a period of probation, but unfortunately I don't have the context to speak for what a Texas court might do.

Thanks for your help.. I'm really scared.. Most of the school is backing me up on this and I don't think they really want to press charges on me.
