I'm getting ready to apply for a security clearance, maybe even top secret security clearance for the United States National Guard. Just 4 days ago I was caught shop lifting. I did it on a dare and got caught. It was my first time ever doing anything wrong (though they didn't believe me till they checked my record) and I still have to go to court for it. It happened in Ohio and I was wondering if anyone has any advice about how to handle this? Is there anyway to not have anything happen or have it so nothing goes on my record considering this is the first thing I've done wrong or what is the best way to go about this? Especially sense I"m getting ready to apply for this clearance?

I took about $150 worth of shirts. Though I thought I had gotten them off of the sale rack so if I did get caught it wouldn't be that expensive. Because while I was doing it I thought if I got caught all I'd have to do was pay for the items and maybe a little more, I didn't realize the consequences...Yea stupid me...
