Emancipation For A 17-Year-Old In Nevada

ok, My friend hates her family and doesn't enjoy it there at all. She wants to leave and find a better place to live. So much that she has thought of the idea of running away. She has turned 17 and the idea of emancipation has crossed her mind. The only problem is that i don't know what she has to do to do so. What are the rules and how does she go about making all this work.

.Is she self supporting 100%?
.Can she get parental consent?
.Does she have a plan?
.Does she have a mental history?
.Does she have a criminal history (including runaway)

If answer is no to any one or more of these emancipation is either impossible are even more difficult

aside from staying at the home with her parents. yesThen answer is no not yes

not sureThsi means her parents can fight the process

plan...as in? I will take that as a no. She needs an independent living plan. Where will she live how will she pay bills etc

as you can see she fails to meet simple requirements. Emacnipation is not meant to be easy and less than 12 out of every 10000 are granted each year

As in, she can't just walk into the courtroom and say she hates her family and she wants to be emancipated. That'll get her exactly nowhere.

She needs to show the judge her plan for how she plans to support herself. Where she is going to live. How she's going to get to work. How she's going to continue to go to school while she's working enough hours to support herself AND keep her grades up. How much she will have to pay in rent, utilities, food, medical care, transportation, school supplies, internet connection, clothing, and so on. How all of these items are provided for in her earnings. How it is in her best interest to be emancipated. Why she thinks she can do a better job bringing herself up than her family can.

And don't forget, the judge has heard it all before. He or she is not going to be impressed by anything but cold hard facts and numbers, not by whining, emotional pleas, or promises. "I'll get a job that pays...." won't cut it. "I don't think my electric bill will be more than..." won't cut it. "I'm so unhappy, please let me go..." definitely won't cut it.

If her plan is to go and live with her boyfriend (you?) tell her to forget it. That will MOST definitely not cut it.


She's not going to be emanicapted so that someone else can support her. Particularly not the taxpayers.

well she has talked to me about a pplan to that degree. the only problem is the parents are iffy on it all. Which i understand. But she can support herself fine. the only reason she is still in the house is because she isn't 18 and her parents are all pissy about the whole idea of her going.

They are not required to like it. They are also not required to permit it. Emancipation is a privilege, not a right.
