Default Possession Of Firearms By A Non-Violent Felon

Not sure if this is the right forum for this question....

About two months ago there was a domestic dispute between my girl and me. I ended up calling the police b/c she was getting violent. The cops showed up and wanted to know if there were any weapons in the house, I have two pistols, which I turned over to them for some sort of 'testing' they do these days.

I am a convicted felon (larceny) in NC. They did not arrest me then, and did not even mention if I was a felon. I guess when they ran my ID it didn't show up.

Will they be back to arrest me once the tests on the firearms are complete?

Also, will there be any relief for non-violent felons to possess guns in the future?

    Thanks,

    JJ

If they connect the dots and find out that you were unlawfully in possession of the firearms, it is conceivable that you could be charged. I can't predict the future.

I do not believe that there is any provision in North Carolina law for restoration of firearms rights following a felony conviction. If you wish to see if any legislative change is being considered, consider consulting your state representative.

The testing they are performing is running test fired casings (maaaybe bullets) through NIBIN (National Ballistics Information Network). If there are any positive links between the guns taken from you, and previous unsolved crimes, you can bet they will be back.

And I would strongly suggest (if you are a felon who has not had their rights to possess a firearm restored) to not go down to the police property department and "get your guns back", even if they call you and tell you that you can.
