We have been renting a home for 5 months of a 1-year lease in California. We are concerned the house may be going into foreclosure. We had a mortgage rep come to our door asking for the owner and then left. We also accidentally opened a letter showing the owner paid January taxes but not April. We sent a letter certified to our property manager asking for some clarity. Property manager has moved and their phone number is disconnected. We are waiting for them to contact us. Do they have to tell us the house is in foreclosure? We do not have much money and wonder whether we should stop paying rent and save up to find a new place? Our credit is very bad now as we had a foreclosure last year and are fiiling bankruptcy next week so we are not too worried about credit problems unless we couldn't move in someplace new. Yet most places were ok with us moving in with a larger deposit. We just dont want to pay rent and be surprised with a quick get out notice.
