State: Connecticut
I was walking down the street the other day when two police officers come out of a bush and ask me and my two friends to come over. They asked us where we were going and "Who we got it from", they started naming every drug dealer that I had ever met and asked us to put our hands behind our heads, we did so but kept questioning each other because we did not know if they had the grounds to search us. Now before I go on with my beautiful story I should summarize what we did before we walked down that horrid street. Me and my friends left our high school (yes we are minors) and walked a couple blocks to go to the store and got cigars (blunts), then we were going back to the park right next to our school when we saw two of our friends, we said hi to them and then went on our way, then we walked down the street the cops stopped us. The End. Now back to my other story, I was the one with the contraband on me, when the cop searched me he missed the bags and went on to search my other pockets, he found a pack of cigarettes and then stopped and told me that it was illegal for me to smoke, he also warned me that if he found the weed on me, he would arrest all of us, so I came through and told him that I did have some on me, he asked me to take it out and when I did he had me destroy it by trowing it on the ground and stomping it. He told us what charges we could have faced and asked us to move along. Now I'm not gonna say that I was not grateful for their mercy, but I still want to know if they had the right to search me. What should I do next time? Also is it true that it's illegal for me to smoke? Me and my friends were going to call our lawyers because we thought they had no probable cause to search us. They told us not to bother because lawyers don't understand the law on the street, one of them actually told me that by just shaking the hand of my friend on the street, they had the right to stop me and search me. Is this true?![]()
