I was charged with fifth-degree theft in 2005, in Iowa, I had just turned 18. I was taken into the back of the store (I worked at this place) and was terminated from my job after I found out I had stolen 7 days prior. See, earlier in the week I told a co-worker of mine to ring up some merchandise while I was on my lunch brake. I set the pile near the register along with my printed out credit card number. When I returned my things were bagged and on the floor. So, naturally at the end of the day I took my things home. Now, a police officer came into the room I was held in during my termination, and made me sign something. I was not arrested. I only had to pay a fine of $400.00, and had to plea guilty in court. I'm wondering, how long does this stay on my record? And, do I have to answer yes to that irritating question "Have you ever been convicted of or plead guilty to..."? Also, I'm moving to Colorado in November, will I have to answer yes out there? Please, any input will help!
