Talking Can a Landlord Lock a Tenant's Door?

What is the name of your state? Missouri

One of my patients just recently contacted me frantically stating his landlord locked him out. He had made a arrangement to pay his rent late mid month and missed it by five days. He was gone out of town and went home today and the locks have been changed.

Can a landlord do that? I was sure it was illegal or requires going to court.

    Any help?

Assuming a conventional landlord-tenant relationship, Missouri requires a landlord to have a court order to evict a tenant. You may wish to review this guide (PDF) to Missouri landlord-tenant law.
