Default Getting My Daughter From Jail Into A Drug Rehab Center

My daughter was sentenced on 5/22 to a 6 month stay at a reidential facility for substance abuse. She is 27. She has been in jail since 10/8/06. She is non violent. Yesterday her attorney told me that they place won't even put her on the wait list yet because the jail has to agree to release her to me for transport. The facility is 2 1/2 hours away from here and the facility will not pick her up and the jail she is in won't transport her so despite a court order for her to go there no one will take her so that just leaves me but now we find out AFTER A MONTH! that the judge has to order the jail to release her to me before they will even put her on their wait list.

She has been sitting in jail four weeks since htey sentenced her and 8 mopnths since she was arrested!!

Now we have to wait for the judge to agree to release her to me and THEN they will put her on a wait list at the facility and the wait could be another omnth after that.

Meanwhile no one can tell me what to expect. The facility won't even tell me if she can bring hygiene items or a change of clothes, NOTHING until she is on their list.

It seems the judge and the p-o at the facility are in a power struggle and no one bothered to tell us this and no one (not even her attorney0 bothered to figure out why she wasn't on the list 4 weeks ago.

This seems grossly unfair. I don't know what I can do to move this along any faster. I want to complain but don't know who to turn to. Her lawyer is useless. I asked the lawyer what to do and he told mne to wait until the judge oks the release and then we just have to wait.

I DONT WANT TO WAIT. My life is on hild. I am told I have to just sit around and wait for them to call me to tell me they have a bed. I have a life too. How am I supposed to make my own plans not knowing if they can call me at any time? It could be another week it could be another month or it could be a few months.

Can someone PLEASE give me some insight here?

We live in Florida. She is in the Manatee County jail. I live in Bradenton.

Please help me figure this out. Its not fair. She is ready for rehab and the wait is discouraging her. She is beside herself with grief and depression. She gets no help in jail, no counseling, no one to ask about this. Nothing except other inmates. AND this is all at the tax payers expense.

Can anyone please help me??? I am desperate.

It is unfortunate that there is delay. However, unfair as the delays may be, attending rehab instead of going to jail is a privilege and not everybody is afforded (or can afford) that privilege.

This is your daughter's mess, not yours. She broke the law and, from the sentence you suggest, this wasn't the first time. You can feel bad for your daughter if you wish, but you have no responsibility here. A call will come eventually, and all you have to worry about then is picking her up at the jail and driving her to rehab. If you're obsessing about this, Alanon attendance may help get you to the place you need to be.

If you wish to pack a suitcase for her, generally speaking she would be allowed clothes and personal care items such as a safety razor and toothbrush, but package any soaps, deodorants, cosmetics, etc., separately as they may not be allowed (they're easy mediums for smuggling drugs), and don't pack anything with acetone or alcohol (such as most mouthwash and nail polish remover) as it will almost certainly not be allowed. Don't pack any medications, prescription or OTC, unless otherwise instructed. You can expect her belongings to be searched during intake, and contraband removed.

If she has a "big book", either NA or AA, or any other recovery-related literature (an AA "daily meditations book, a guide to the twelve steps, etc.), most rehabs permit (and often encourage) that type of recovery literature. Some may be provided as part of the program.
