Caught Shoplifting at a Kohl's

Okay, so, I received the letter today.

on the second sheet, it says

If the person to whom a written dremand is made complies with such demand within 20 days following the receipt of the demand, that person shall be given a written release from further civil laibility with respect to the specific act of shoplifting or t heft.


Is this a definite? And does this mean that I'll be receiving ANOTHER letter?

Well, the thing says that if I DO comply, I'll be given written notifcation that ive been cleared of all liabilities...

One last question. Do you have insight on how they dole out the fines? Reason I'm asking is because my civil demand was for $175, while the girl I was with got hers for $150...and SHE was the one that actually had stolen merchandise on her..

There is no formula for Civil Demand it normally is around 3 times the amount of theft but even thats not automatic. the amount has no relation to who took what.
