    Default Questions About Store Conduct

I live in Illinois. I was at Dierberg's food store shopping. I picked up a vase of flowers and the tag fell off, so I picked it up and stuck it in the top of the flowers. When I went to the cashier, she wrong up a lower price. I didn't even realize it. In any case, I bought some other things as well. When exiting the store, a store security girl asked me to come with her to the office. I went, and then once in the office, she was arrogant and kept saying I was going to jail unless I did exactly what she said to me. I tried to tell her I didn't do anything wrong, but she kept telling me if I said anything again I would go to jail. So I just sat there and she filled out some paperwork and had me sign a couple. Then she gave me a piece of paper saying that I will get a fine in the mail for $100 to $250.00. then she said I am not allowed in any Dierberg's stores ever again.

    What the hell??

I called the store manager the next day and he said he would look into it, but I have not heard anything back from him yet. He tells me that the info, copy of my driver license, etc, only stays at Dierbergs.

Does anyone know what I can do to get my information destroyed they have? I didn't do anything wrong and certainly was not stealing anything.

Is anyone familiar with Dierbergs process and where the information is sent/given to? I have no record and never been in trouble before.

Also, the letter they send in the mail, what will it say? Cause usually other people in my house open my mail, and I don't want this to be an embarrassing situation in front of my family.

When people pay the fine they give, is it over and done with, or what takes place?

I would really appreciate any help.

The letter they are sending is called "Civil Demand" If your version of incident is accurate you might want to call corporate for that store and even consult an Attorney

I was taking OP version as it was presented although it is very likely a distorted view. Now if cashier rings wrong price is that theft? Maybe not depends on when (if at all) OP was aware of incorrect charge.

I think much of the story has been left out. With the information the poster has provided there does not appear to be a crime here. Why would they sign papers? There's more to this. It sounds like they put a tag on the flowers with a lower price.

In response to the OP Dierberg's keeps a copy at the store and sends the original to corp.

At one of the local grocery stores here in town, I've noticed that a bouquet in a vase will sometimes have more than one price tag on it. Sometimes the floral department forgets to remove the price tag from the vase, despite adding a new price tag for the combination of the bouquet and vase.
