Default Stole From Meijer Seven Months Ago

I was caught stealing from the local Meijers just under 7 months ago. The LP were not called and everything was taken care of with no Police. I payed the civil demand within the 30 and they said there would be no more to worry about. Well now 7 months has gone by and i just got a letter in the mail with a court date for retail fraud.

Can they wait that long to bring charges. even when the cops were not called.

Yes they had until SOL ran out which it did not. Find a criminal defense Attorney before your court date

The Civil Demand has nothing to do with the criminal charges do not relate the two. Find a criminal defense Attorney ask him/her about plea deals and possible diversion programs if available

I know the 2 are different. I signed a paper there stating that i would pay the civil demand of $200 (which i did) and that i would no long step foot in meijers (which i havent). But signing this paper also stated that they wouldnt bring any civil charges. I know retail fraud is a misd. and not civil. But you are saying they have 2 years from the date of to file charges? even though there was NO police record of it ever happening?

They already filed the charges thats why you have a court date! Like with any crime DA has until SOL runs out to file charges and in this case Meijers waited a few months or they filed right away but DA took his/her time issuing a warrant or court date. Regardless its all legal and you should find an Attorney
