I also am in this predicament in AZ. My landlord tells me the home is in foreclosure and I will have 4-6 weeks to move out. He tells me his parents (who own the home) are two months behind (doesn't sound like foreclosure territory to me?). He also says (which sounded like COMPLETE BS) that if we don't move out they'll "lock up the home with your stuff in it". My wife has been out of work for two months (though working now), and we just don't have the money to move out right now. Is this legal? What he has agreed to do is unconditionally return all deposits, which won't cover our moving costs. We told him he would be responsible for moving us...he seemed to tentatively agree that $3,000 (plus $2,000 returned deposits) would be something he'd be willing to do.
The whole situation seems fishy to me. We asked who held the loan, did they know there were renters, could we contact the bank or agent foreclosing to deal with them and he "didn't know" any of these answers but promised "by Monday" he'll have all this information.
Any assistance would be appreciated, my wife and I are frantic right now.
