Credit Card Debt After Leaving The Country

I lived in USA for 7 years during which time I accumulated a credit card/bank overdraft/credit line debt of about $25K, I was very regular in making payments till the time I was in the USA, after that I moved to Canada and could not cope up with the payments since last 3 years. Some of this debt is over 4-5 years old now and I am unable to make payments, but I still get collection calls from the collection agencies threatening to make a "decision" about me, I have never answered the phone calls and never talked to a collection agent.

What legal action can be taken against me in Canada? Can they issue a summons to me here and would I be forced to answer that?

Any Help on this matter would be appreciated.

A U.S. creditor could pursue you through the courts in Canada, but they probably won't. They will decide what they want to do based upon the amounts involved, the anticipated cost of litigation, and their internal policies.

Thanks for the reply. Can the USA based credit card companies have access to my Canadian Credit File and can this cause a problem with my Canadian Credit?
