Default Can You Be Charged If You're Not Caught In The Store

so, long story short...i was in vanity, and stupid me thought it would be cool to steal a shirt. As I am walking out of the mall, a security guard follows me. I throw the shirt in a trash can on my way out. THe guard gets in his car and parks behind my car to get my plates. I am not driving my car im driving my boyfriends. If i am not caught at the store, what can they do?

Sounds good enough for a conviction to me.

These guys are just trying to scare you. If they did not stop you and make contact with you then you are most likely in the clear. Most stores will make the person in charge of apprehending shoplifters get the merchandise back. If they fail to that usually they will not procede. What will probably happen is they called the police and your car will be on some watch list for security.

That is insane. I never known that to be true. In every case I have known of where a plate number was saved tha tinfo was turned over to PD. Then retailers request actions. If was DS states is true every grab n run would be successful! No one here can guantee anything but if they got your plates your BF will be getting a call or letter soon or a warrant will be issued and next time hes pulled over he could be in trouble
