Default Giving A Police Officer The Finger

Is it within our First Amendment freedom of speech rights to give a cop the finger?

I recall reading that when Mark Fuhrman (of OJ fame) was a cop, he used to try to provoke people into using four-letter words, and then once they did, he would arrest them, on some charge such as disrupting the peace.

Generally, yes. It's rude, but lawful ... in most circumstances. However, if you are drunk or high, this would NOT be a good idea!

And if you read further, you would have found that he said this stuff to try and get ... uh ... close, to a female writer/producer who he hoped would help launch a career as a movie consultant. As I recall he later admitted that most of what he said was hogwash, and news and law enforcement investigators trying to prove his allegations of violence were not able to prove any of them.

It would not be a crime in the state of CA to flip off a cop. However, it MIGHT attract attention that the person doing the flipping not want. Be sure you have no warrants, your car is registered, you have a valid license, and are not on probation or parole when you do this.

Its these same morons who flip off cops that complain about a 6 minute arrival time vs a 5 minute one! I was raised to respect the Police and do. I raise my children the same. When they see an Officer they wave (using all five fingers) and say hi!

As Chris Rock said "expect an a$$ whooping to come your way" ...

flipping off anyone - even a sweet, white-haired granny is not advisable.

Some people just don't like that finger and may want to break it.

    Do you feel lucky ??
