Default Statute of Limitations in Texas for School Theft

I need to know what the statute of limitations is in Texas for stealing a musical instrument from a public high school. The instrument is valued at approximately $5000 if that makes any difference. Thank you!

I think it is ten years; that's the best I could guess.

Likely either seven or ten years, depending upon the facts. See Article 12.01 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
