DWI in D.C. With A Security Clearance

Greetings,

Just this past week, I was charged with DWI in Washington DC (District of Columbia). This was the very first time in my entire life that I've ever been charged with anything. The other unfortunate part is that I also have an active security clearance. I am hoping to get some advice here to proceed.

1) I maybe able to get into the educational program for a year and end up with no conviction but will this charge still appear on my record?

2) After a year, when I apply for expungement and I am granted one, does it mean that the arrest has been erased?

3) Can this harm my current credentials i.e. security clearance?

There are security clearances, and then there are security clearances. I would not be surprised if the entire process - arrest, charge, and disposition - become known to whatever agency issued the security clearance. The effect on your security clearance? That will depend upon the level of clearance and the policies of your agency. A dismissal of a charge does not "erase" an arrest.
