Non Custodial Took My Son to Get Driver's Permit Without My Permission nor Knowledge

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: California

Hi, Im a mother of my 16 year old son and have sole custody. Yesterday my son sent me a text saying he passed his driver's permit. His father never told me or even mentioned of taking him to the DMV to get his permit. We did discuss about this topic long time ago about our son getting his driver's license, but I told him at that time that I do not feel comfortable for him to get one yet because I dont think he's responsible or mature enough to be driving at that age. Plus, car insurance would be very expensive. I wanted him to wait at least 'til he's 18 years old. We have an older son and he didnt get his license til he was 18 years old and he was more responsible than him at that age.
I know DMV cant do anything about custody issues but I do not want my 16 year old to get his license yet. Can his father legally take my son to DMV to take his behind the wheel driving test without my permission?

The DMV should not have issued the permit. It takes the signature of the custodial parent (or both parents in the case of joint custody). A parent can revoke the provisional permit in California. You may need to show some proof that you are the custodial parent at this point. The form is DL 142.

Kids these days that spend most of their time staring into their cell phones have lost their situational awareness. As a result, maybe we should raise the driving age to 21. Lord knows that they will not stop texting once they get behind the wheel.

As for the OP, maybe you should see what kind of driver he is before revoking his permit...or even worse.

That problem is not just limited to kids. I was hit from behind in stop and go traffic about a year ago by a middle age woman who decided to look at her cell phone while traffic was stopped for a few minutes. Evidently forgetting she was stopped in traffic, she let her foot off the brake and her car hit mine. And she's far from the only adult I've seen driving or walking while using their cell phone, totally oblivious to what is going on around them.

TM, I am aware that all ages are addicted to their cell phones. As I ride my bike past traffic at stop lights I look down and notice every other car is on their phone. Some just do it at stops and some do it while moving. My point with the OP is that very new drivers that try to text and drive is an even worse recipe for disaster. They don't even have the skills to drive yet and they're multitasking out of the gate.

Also, teenagers are in very formative years. They should be developing habits of situational awareness...especially girls.

That's BS. I'm more afraid of the older and more experienced driver who believes that he (or she) is an excellent driver, so they are just fine using their phone.

The last three accidents I was involved in the drivers were under 20 years old...and all of them were the other person's fault. The worst was a guy who had his license three months and he thought when a light turned green he could gas it. Well, I was still in the intersection on my bike. It's called "clearing an intersection first!" He nearly killed me, broadsiding me at about 30mph. But you can believe what you want about young drivers. Insurance companies have the 411 on them too.
