I have a few fairly serious convictions from about 10 years ago. Recently, I've been trying to get an apartment, and have been getting denied due to the record.
I did a little digging, and I've found that most apartment companies around here use Michigan's online offender tracking service, OTIS. My convictions were in Florida, and only appear on OTIS because I transferred my probation up here when I moved.
Also, I was convicted under an odd and archaic statute in Florida that doesn't exist in Michigan, so the charges listed on OTIS are much more severe than my actual charges, and do not represent at all what I was convicted of.
Is there any way to remove myself from Michigan's database, or did I shoot myself in the foot by serving those last 3 months of probation up here?
