HI.
I spoke to my manager about a sexual harassment issue. A coworker kept asking me out, I declined, it got to a point where I told him to stop calling me or talking to me outside of work. He did. Then I stopped socializing with the team after work because he was always there. I then went to one social even because managers and new employees were attending, this was almost two months later, then I left and went to my hotel room (i'm a traveling consultant) and went to bed. He then started calling my cell, the hotel room phone & started knocking on my door (he got the room # from the hotel clerk). I reported this, they transferred him.
Now, the girlfriend of this guy is still working in my location (DE). She is a pjct admin and I have minimal interactions with her, but she does need to work with me at times. The day before they took him away things between us was fine, the day after she stopped talking to me, including relating to business issues, she is related to some of the clients we work with which have been shunning me too. There are rumors flyjing around the office and whispers, etc. about the whole situation, several people have stopped speaking to me. A client and an employee (same company as me) reported that I was dressed unprofessionally (and too revealing) at work one day. This after working there for 6 months without ever hearing a problem about my way of dressing (usually suits, or dresses with blazers/sweaters). This came from a client (related to the girlfriend) and an employee (close friend to the girlfriend). My manager said i was dressed fine. I told her that i did not mind if people stopped inviting me places, etc..because I'm here to do my job, but that I do have a problem when the gossip is done with clients and I'm sure the client knows about this whole situation (since she's the girl's aunt) and that three different clients that day (1 male, 2 women) mentioned that I liked nice that day. She said she did notice that those people were close and could understand that it could happen, then she asked if i liked my job. I said i did- that i love working with the people I'm working with. She mentioned that the clients (my group, i'm a lead) have mentioned that they love working with me too. We have different specialties and skills that compliment each other in a team. She said she would contact HR because she did not know what to do. She also mentioned whether I really thought that the girlfriend would not be upset about what happened, and i stayed quiet to this because I did not know what to say and I felt like I did something wrong- but I was just protecting myself from some psycho knocking on my door at 2am!!! The HR person also has mentioned to me that they moved the guy but I would have to encounter him in corporate events. I said I would prefer not to but she mentioned that i would because we both work for the same company and this could affect my performance reviews. She also mentioned that if I saw this guy call me? and I said 'no'- because I was sleeping at 2am!!!! Even though I did call security and they escorted him out of the area...They are now twisting things around (even though they did move the guy). Anyways, long story short- I continuously get this secretary and other team members (other leads) trying to trip me up or find fault with me at work. I have an HR rep that is now twisting words around, and I have a a situation in which the secretary is related to a client (which I find troublesome because it can effect situations at work- especially when something like this occurs and the secretary is petty and catty and is angry with an employee).
What can I do? I decided to document this information in a timeline format. I have emails, etc. and send this information certified mail. I believe they will not protect me and may even at some point let me go or transfer me- which I do not want to happen (again, this is just something i'm worried could happen).
Do I have any legal standing here? If I document it and make sure they understand that these are the facts - isn't it plausible that it is retaliation and isn't this illegal? Aside from it being illegal, it is included in the corporate sexual harassment policy that there is a 'zero tolerance policy' against retaliation- but nothing continues to be done.
I would appreciate any advice you can offer. The company is located in virginia (corporate), with the project at the client site located in Delaware.
