Default Re: Are Co-Owners on a Mobile Home Bill of Sale the Names That Title Should Be Made O

He bought the trailer with the intention of giving it to me, so he had a bill of sale made out in both our names. That way when I die he gets the trailer. Before I moved in he decided to remodel it. Without my knowledge he ended up racking up bills of over $26,000 To remodel a single wide 1968 Rollohome that he only paid $3000 for. After I lived here a month he presented me a bill for $27,000 saying that I owe him for the trailer! He used his wife’s money to remodel it without her consent and she wants him to pay it back. So he’s passing it on to me! I’m a senior on disability And I only have Social Security income. I had no idea how much money he was putting in the trailer or that he was expecting me to pay for all the remodeling I faithfully pay the lot rent every month on time and all the utilities but now he wants $1000 a month to pay back what he said or expenses that I owe him. I cannot afford that and I told him that and had I known that he was going to be spending $26,000 on this trailer I never would’ve agreed to move here. So he got mad and said he was going to change the title before it got sent out to just his name so that I would have no place to live. I have been living here for six months. He told me last week that he told the trailer park to change it to his name only. It’s complicated because the trailer park didn’t even have possession of the title when we bought it back in March. So now they’re just getting around to filing it with the DMV and he’s trying to circumvent it. I just wanna make sure I have a place to live and thought that if I had my name on the title I could have a leg to stand on to still live here and not be homeless.

Again, you need to do a major hissy fit with the trailer park to make sure that they don't follow his instructions. It also makes zero sense that he would have invested 27k in refurbishing a used single wide.

It does however make a lot of sense that his wife would be seriously pissed that he invested 27k of her money into something she didn't have an ownership stake in.

What is your relationship with him?

Putting $27K into 1968 tailer is insane at best. You don't say if you have paid him the $26K he presented you. If you haven't you should take it and move elsewhere.

No I did not pay him. Insane is a kinder word than I’d have chosen. But yes. He mismanaged the remodel and he blew all his wife’s money. There was never any verbal or written agreement between us regarding the remodel. His wife threatened to divorce him for spend the money with telling her and now he’s tying to pass it on to me as a way to get the money back for his wife. Ugly to say the least.

If you were able to pay him back, then it would be totally wrong for him to expect to receive the trailer when you pass away...because he would have already been paid for it. However, since you paying him back was never the deal, he will get his money back (sort of) when you pass away and he gets the trailer.

Again, raise a huge stink with the trailer park people to make sure that they don't let him get away with titling it only in his name.

No. Nothing. He bought the trailer for me to live in. I’m a disabled senior. He was doing a good deed. Until he remodeled it. And his wife found out.

I think that I disagree. She is on the bill of sale as an owner. She has every right to live there.
