Default Mistakenly Filled Out Certification Forms

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: CALIFORNIA

I am self-employed and recently filed for unemployment benefits. I answered "NO" on question 6 when I should have answered YES since I did have one client paying me weekly. I didn't realize my mistake until after the I got an email telling me my claim was funded. I tried desperately to cancel change the claim but it was too late and the system marked it as "paid". I have no intention of keeping this money, if and when I receive it. I want to know if there is something more I can do. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thank you

Any chance you can get through to the EDD by phone and find out what to do?

Yes I did contact them and they said I needed to speak to a "specialist". They took my number and said I would get a call at some point. But I am concerned the longer I hold this money the worse it looks.

If you hold the money back and are prepared to pay it back to the unemployment agency as soon as you are notified to pay it back then you should be ok. Some times it just causes more confusion to try to pay something back before you are asked to do so. I do realize that seems counterproductive but government works at its own pace.

Thank you for the response. I will continue to try to reach them. I have also sent emails through the online system. The money will likely be sent in a debit card. I don't see why that couldn't simply zero the card and cancel the claim. I am embarrassed I made this error.

Assuming that question is asking if you earned any wages for the week you were certifying, it doesn't mean that you would receive $0 had you answered yes and reported those wages. There would have been an offset to the weekly payment but not necessarily no payment.

Yes true but I'm sure I don't qualify considering the amount each I was bringing in. The big problem right now is absolutely cannot get a hold of them. They aren't accepting phone calls at this time and I left emails in my account but this is causing a lot of stress because I would like to resolve it.
