I agree with a lot of conspiracy and legal websites that these Lock downs are Martial Law in the works. We are on the end of our ropes of mankind losing his rights, and becoming a socialist surveillance nation.

I complained to the state inspector general in my state about governor closing down so called businesses and churches during this virus hoax to to take over peoples rights. I thought my complaint to the state agency about the governor was made anonymous but then was referred to his office. Wonder if he retaliates?

I don't believe for a minute that this virus is a conspiracy or a hoax. What it is doing though is making our leaders drunk with power. Power they will not readily give up.

As for this not being social media, you are dead wrong. Message boards, as they are called here, are social media. Also, "Debate the Issues" is the proper place for discussion here.

But to stay on topic, which is what we do here, right, these are my complaints about the virus coverage:

In my town 88 people out of 480,000 had it. That is one out of every 5,400 people. Also, the 88 number is exaggerated because that is how many people had it, not necessarily the amount of people that are currently transmittable. That number is far less than 88. And, if you want to talk about fear of death, only one or two people out of 480,000 will die from it. Yet we have shut down the whole town and locked everyone indoors.

Relatively few individuals have suffered a financial loss from this virus, yet the fed govt is sending out checks to everyone. Why? Some people are completely devastated by being sent home with zero income and others are just working from home and keeping the money coming in. Yet those that are still employed will get the same amount as those that are now in the soup line and are unable to pay their basic bills. How fair is that?

IMO, if you are still getting a paycheck you shouldn't get a dime from the Fed. If you are living on SS, pension, 401, etc, you shouldn't get a dime. But, I am expecting all the still-employed Republicans who preach "entitlements" to send their checks back. Ya right!

BTW - I don't mind them shutting the towns down to stop it, just stop with the constant doom and gloom reporting and say something positive. I just do not see it getting much worse with all of us indoors. But we will see because they have gone on record saying it will get much worse regardless of our efforts.

No idea. You didn't even mention in what state you live.

The virus itself is very real. There in no hoax on that. What the response to it is hard to really say since the information we have on it is limited as it is very new. What information we do have suggests that the virus spreads easily and thus rates of infection grow exponentially if left unchecked. And we know that some people die from it and a significantly larger group have serious problems with it that require hospitalization to avoid death. The problem thus is that if we let it go unchecked you'll rapidly have many more people needing that kind of care than we are able to treat. That's what has happened in several parts of the world already. So the hope is that by limiting contacts people have with each other we slow the spread out enough that our medical system doesn't get overwhelmed. So what is the perfect response for it? Nobody really knows for sure, which is why we have a whole range of views about how long we'll need to have stay in place orders and business closings. But every medical expert I've seen discussing the issue agrees that doing nothing would likely be a disaster. Countries that started out with that approach are finding out that now.

Doom, gloom, disasters and scandal sell papers (and other media, in this modern age) a lot more than something happy. News organizations don't get much traffic reporting "It was a beautiful day today" but will get lots of interest with "hurricane kills 100 people." That's just human nature, unfortunately.

It can also be seen as placing the profits, power and influence of the few over the wellbeing of the masses.

Nope. Not a hoax. But, some actions taken are of questionable legality.

These lockdown orders are of dubious legal value and are likely to result in massive litigation in the end since I have seen none - at least in CA - that have the true weight of the law. There is a difference between regulating businesses and the status of public parks, and regulating who can travel and associate with whom. Regardless of the wisdom of such isolation, there is little to no legal support for such orders in CA yet some cities and counties here are doing just that. And, by doing so, a number of officers here (and in other states) are placing themselves in legal jeopardy. I, for one, could not support such an order to detain or arrest - without cause - someone for associating with people on their property, traveling, or engaging in most any other Constitutionally protected action. My adult son lives in Los Angeles, and he has been stopped by the LAPD twice while on foot walking from his apartment the three blocks he needed to go to the store. His crime: Outside. Only once in my career have I disobeyed a directive given by my superiors, but if given this one, it'd be twice. I'm happy to make contact with people, suggest, point out, offer direction and support, but will not act in violation of the state and US Constitutions all because I'm told to.

As for stimulus, well, I haven't read this entire bill so cannot offer an opinion one way or the other about it. I hope it provides some assistance to businesses so that when all is said and done, they can remain open and there will be someplace for people to go back to work. I will not be getting a check because my wife and I make more than the threshold to receive a check, so it's not an issue for me. I can say with absolute certainty, though, that at least in CA we will likely see an unprecedented hike in taxes and fees when this is over as they use this emergency as cover for renewed moneygrabs. Retirement #2 cannot come soon enough ...

Martial law, while having a basis in law, is basically co-extensive with the Constitutional Suspension Clause concerning Habeas Corpus. Governor's Executive Orders are not binding on the man on the street per se, as they do not have the Force of law. What is being enforced, at least in Ohio, is an ORDER from the State Health dept. Director to limit gatherings, close nonessential services, etc. for Health/Safety. I did some checking and a violation is a Misdemeanor of the 2nd degree.

Example, forget the city, but police busted an underage party with a gathering of more than 10 people, a violation of the State order, aside from drinking.

Most police in Ohio, I hear by media reports, are not necessarily present/called to arrest/cite, but to do so when told to comply with the ORDER, then refuse, such as mentioned above, but here the Host did comply.
