If you want to equate them, Harold, that's up to you. But that's not the conversation I am looking to have. Steve is sure that there are people being sent to jail for no reason other than that they were out of their house. I'm telling him to put his money where his mouth is.

I wouldn't be surprised if some rookie cop took somebody in. I'd be more surprised if the DA did not immediately drop the charges...which they often do when cops act out.

There is a big difference between receiving a ticket and being jailed, Harold. For the purpose of this conversation, I am only interested in verified, validated accounts where someone was jailed for no reason but being out of their house.
Considering burglars and batterers aren't going to jail, people committing a misdemeanor or civil infraction (depending on the state) is not going to go to jail. But, people are being cited. What we don't know is the details. Just read a story of 161 citations issued to individuals and 15 to businesses ... somewhere. Can't recall where - it was in passing on my FB feed. Whether those 161 people were inside those 15 businesses, I can't say. Even then, you'd think it would be the business that would be liable and not the individuals.

So, no, there aren't going to be custodial arrests for this. Not right now. They might be transported and cited out, but that's the best that's going to happen. And,m unless the local government or the cited individual runs the media we will never know about it.

    Well ...

    https://www.news10.com/news/pennsylv...g-for-a-drive/

And these are just a few of the ones I found when searching for citations as opposed to arrests. Because, again, people aren't going to jail for felonies right now in some places, certainly not for low grade offenses such as these.

Of course, they are still ARRESTS. They just aren't generally resulting in BOOKINGS.

Heck, we're not even arresting burglars. Had a guy who committed a couple commercial burglaries on Monday and was arrested. Released Tuesday morning on $0 bail (and no conditions of release like might have been available had he been released OR by a judge). Committed multiple commercial burglaries on Wednesday afternoon and evening, caught again and booked. Released again on $0 bail pre-dawn Thursday morning. Anyone wanna take bets as to what he was doing last night and will be doing tonight?

Granted, CA is soft on property crimes, but this is simply ridiculous. And these are just SOME of the folks we have released from jail and prison!

I'm glad that the DA is not pursuing the charge. I suspect that will be the rule and not the exception in most jurisdictions. Or, courts will dismiss these en masse when the courts open back up in their entirety down the road.
