The true answer is: As long as it takes.

Depending upon the jurisdiction and the clarity of the information and the offense, it could be as short as 24-48 hours. Or, as long as the statute of limitations in your unnamed state.

Bottom line, you may have to hold your breath for as long as the statute of limitations has not yet tolled on the offense(s) you might be accused of. This could be one year or much, much longer.

Dude, punctuation and vowels are your friends. This forum isn't limited by text message limits.

You didn't indicate what state this took place in, but most can prosecute misdemeanors up to a year after the crime. A minor vandalism act isn't likely at the top of the police priority list. I know when I was a victim up in Pennsylvania, it took three or four months to get to even the preliminary hearing. Contrary to what you see in TV shows, there isn't often a "warrant" for the arrest on such things. You'll just get a summons to appear. All the traditional "booking" things get done then.

Of course, you might get lucky and the state will decide not to prosecute this, but I wouldn't hold my breath. If you do get contacted further by the police or get any sort of charging document, you need to speak to a lawyer before opening your mouth to anybody else.

You are also open to civil action. This means that the owner of the car can sue you for damages.

Not quite sure what the part I underlined is supposed to mean.

Obtaining an arrest warrant can take less than an hour.

Seriously...are there really people so lazy that they have to abbreviate a three letter word (and) to two letters?
