The myspace information states a child must be 14yrs of age or older to have a myspace page. It requires parental consent.
I read about COPPA and the responsibilties of online companies, however, I have yet to find anything about the "parental responsibility".
I found a myspace website for a 12 year old. The website states she is 14. This obviously due to the fact that myspace requires them to be 14 or older. The website has a picture of the girl and it is set to private, however, it also includes the words..."I don't go to Bi...es! Bi...es come to me! F...k ma Bi..es!" and I also found the myspace page of the parent, where the 12 year old has left a message with her own myspace picture/website/information.
Is there any law that makes a parent liable for this behavior, such as "child endangerment, neglect or other?"
I contacted the FTC and they only advised to contact my space and have the page deleted, however, no responsibility for the parent. If the parent allowed their child to lie, I'm sure they'll just get another page with other information. In addition, I contact the Texas Attorney General's office, since he has been very vocal about child predators and myspace, and they also advised there was nothing they could do and didn't know where to direct me.
I am very concerned about this little girl and how a mother could put her daughter in harms way. The mother's webpage also has pictures of her and the other daughters, including one of a 10yr old or so, in what I believe is a "suggestive pose", since the little girl is laying down on a living room center table...Not sure I'd post a picture of my daughter like that, especially on a public myspace page. The mother's picture on her own site is also laying on a "bed", with the name similar to sexybabe...stating she is single...which she is actually married...So not sure what that intent is.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
