Question Towing Company in Nevada Refusing Release of Car to Driver, Child of Title Holder

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: California
Company will release vehicle only with notarized letter from the father, whose name is on the title. Unfortunately, he is on a flight on a business trip. I am the mother and called the towing company offering to email a scan of the title of the vehicle and a photo of my husband’s California driver’s license to no avail. Is there something I can do? The company closes at 5:00pm. Trying to avoid overnight fees.

Thank you so much for your help,

The title company is ill-advised to release car to other than the owner or an authorized agent. That you have a copy of the title or his license doesn't prove anything. He might be able to convince them that he authorizes the release by other means but he'd need to contact them.

Thank you so much for your reply. I understand the logic, I was just wondering if there was something else that could be done to avoid further fees. Timing was all wrong with my husband traveling. I wonder if we should have a notarized generic letter of authorization on file at home in case anything like this should happen again? Do notarized documents expire?

Notarized just mean a notary witnessed that the person in question signed the document.

Yes, I do realize. Are you saying then that a notarized authorization of car release is good indefinitely? Thank you!

As long as there is nothing in the document itself that limits authorization for a specific amount of time. yes. Of course, no third party has to accept an old document.
