My mother is in danger in losing her home. Here’s the story in brief. Back in August she lost her job due to discrimination. It has been extremely difficult for her to find a job with a decent wage. Although she has a Bachelor’s degree two things work against her. Her age (She’s 57 and this was also part of the reason why she was fired), and she lives in Pittsburgh (a city much Detroit or any other blue collar town suffering from a lack of jobs and poverty). She right now works part-time but this is not enough to help pay for a mortgage. She has not been able to make payments on the house and the house is up for Sheriff June 3rd. On the brighter side; back in September she filed a discrimination lawsuit against her former employer with EEOC. Based on evidence she gathered EEOC has taken the case, along with the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Commission, and conducted an investigation. By the sound of things it looks as though she may receive a settlement. If so then we can save the house.
My question is: Is there a way to put a stay on the sheriff sale and/or postpone the foreclosure for a future, which will allow time for a settlement to be reached? What roads or who should we contact?
