Question Use Of A Public Utilities Right Of Way

We live in Washington state and have lived on this property for 40 years along with about 30 other homes. We have all used a public utilities gravel road as the only means to get to our homes and have done most of the maintenance on the road. The utilities co have decided we should find another way to access our homes and are going to install gates and close the road.
In order for us to find other access we would have to condemn our way through a few housing project for several miles and the cost would not be possible. Can the public utilites do this to us after 40 years and never a word before that we couldn't use their road?

You need to consult with a local attorney. All of you can get together and hire one.
