I'd like to get some input on a bunch of stuff that has happened at my church. To give a bit of background, I've been going for ten years. When people started bringing kids in on the bus and nobody wanted to deal with 'em, I wound up being one of the main helpers have been ever since.
Over the last few years, I have seen some pretty crappy situations. I've seen a guy accused by the pastor of being a child molester working in junior church, I've seen a guy guilty of raping his daughter teaching a Sunday School class and driving a bus, I've seen a guy that has admitted to sleeping with a fourteen year old in the church get off scott free. I'm ready to leave, but I hate leaving the kids we bring in on the bus there. I've lost all confidence in the leadership of the church, and my sole goal before I leave is to warn as many people who currently send their kids, or who might send their kids, that this probably isn't the healthiest place for their kids to go.
I've been agonizing over ideas. I finally came up with the idea of creating a document that outlines what I've seen happen, and spread it around my town in every way possible. I'll start by going to each of the bus kid's parents individually. I have a website registered in my church's name and I'm thinking about running an add in the local newspaper with the website address...
My questions are
A.) Will this method be effective & what can I do to make it more effective?
B.) Is it against the law to trash a church's name like this, or to run a false add in the local newspaper?
Here is a very rough draft of the paper I plan on publishing and leaving with the parents of the kids that come.
This paper will have the generic names (IE Hell Baptist) replaced with real names, and be supported by the sex offender list, two newspaper clippings describing what happened with the guy who raped his daughter, hopefully some signatures from some of the men who witnessed the bus driver confessing to having sex with a 14 year old, and proof that the pastor is a liar. Is what I'm contemplating doing, from a LEGAL standpoint, libel\slander?
P.S. I live in Oklahoma.
