    Question Property Damage

live in Michigan and I have property that was damaged by my neighbor. I called the police and had report filed. The report said that she did not admit to committing the damage, but she was to pay for the damages. It gave her two weeks to pay. The office said that if she did not that she would be ticketed for disorderly conduct.

That time has come and gone. I have contacted the police again. They found that she had given the wrong name and phone number to the officer. The name was completely wrong and the phone number belonged to her sister (who resides at a different location). I am now waiting for the officer who had initially came out and conducted the investigation to get back to come back out and talk to her again.

The officer was told the correct information from my neighbors sister and then contacted her, and was told that she had no intention of paying for the damaged property.

Should I wait to see what happens? I mean she lied to the officer, and lied about damaging the property. How likely is it that I will be reimbursed for the cost of damages. Or her being charged with MDOP or disorderly conduct? Does anyone think that I will have to take this to court. What is the likelihood of winning a case against her?

    Thanks
    Jen

What evidence do you have that she damaged the property?

The property was clothing and it was bleached, which was in a public washer in my apartment building. There is only one washer and I was using it, with out bleach. I had gone it to the room and found that I still had time left for the washers spin cycle, went back into my apartment. After 5 min. I was on my way back and I saw her leaving the room, she admitted to being there and touching my clothing. There was a paper cup in the garbage, that contained bleach, the garbage had just been emptied by the cleaning crew, while I was checking on my laundry. So it had to have showed up between the time the cleaners left and I saw her leave. I checked with the individuals that do the cleaning, they didn't use bleach containing products.

She also told the officer that she would pay 'to avoid issues with me'.

I take it you two already have "issues." Insist the police follow through or go to the magistrate and swear out the warrant yourself.

We have had may issues in the past, this is the first one that has escalated to damage of property.

What do you mean by going to the magistrate and swearing out the warrant myself? I am a real 'noob' when it comes to things like this.

    Thanks

I just wanted to give everyone an update.

My neighbor was just cited with giving a False ID to a police officer and for disorderly conduct. Apparently, she gave an incorrect name and phone number to the officer.

    Thanks for all the advice!

    Jen
