Default Bed Bug Bites While in a Hotel

My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: NV While staying in a casino/hotel, I sustained numerous bed bug bites and they were so bad I needed to visit Urgent Care for prescription drugs for the infections and horrible discomfort. Reported this to management and security for a report filing. They now are offering me casino comps for the fees I incurred, and not even wanting to reimburse me for the costs I have paid out. I feel this is unacceptable, and wonder how to proceed with this. I am here on vacation, and have lost 3 days of it, with one entire day being at Urgent Care, being miserable and ill from the effects When I explained this to the front desk manager, she told me her boss was no longer going to discuss it...what was offered is what I would receive...PERIOD. Should I just let this go? I am still suffering from the results of these bites, and as the doctor informed me, new ones are still surfacing 2-3 days after the initial ones appeared. Thank you for any direction or advice.

You're going about this wrong. You should be dealing with the hotel's corporate people. You can find out the who and the where on the internet. Then put them on written notice of what happened and your progress to date, indicating that you will seek compensation at a later date when you are fully recovered from the medical consequences.

Never discuss what you want until you are fully recovered and can quantify your claim.

Thank you so much for the info. I know I am not over this yet. I now have a fever and other complications. I will proceed the correct way now. I appreciate your time.

Bed bugs know how to hitchhike without you knowing. Make sure you inspect all your belongings and wash all your clothing in HOT water before bringing any of it home.
I'm not a lawyer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.......

I was told when I filed the report that I do not get a copy of it...that it belongs to the casino. They did, however, give me a file reference number. I didn't understand why I was not allowed a copy of a report I was asked to sign by security. Is this correct, and legal?

They have no obligation to give you a copy.

But when it was handed to you to sign you could have stepped back and taken a picture of it with your cell phone.

Remember that any time somebody hands you something to sign. Assume that you won't be given a copy so take pictures of the document.

When you write to corporate just refer to that reference number.

My father cut his hand on a stairway handrail at one of the larger casinos on The Strip. The casino sent their private EMT to his room to butterfly bandage it, which was sufficient. They immediately comped him three free nights stay.

That seems all the front desk is allowed to do for you. Any further discussion or compensation would have to come from corporate, as AJ suggested.

Since there are injuries on record, corporate may want you to sign a release form, as they did my father. At that point you have leverage over them to demand more compensation in the form of a few thousand dollars of quick compensation. Or, to retain an attorney for more money and a much longer wait time.

Know that they are experts at this and they are hoping you are a 'babe in the woods.' Show them you are not by keeping good records and having photos of the injuries.

Also, a lawyer could discover that this hotel has had this problem before and done nothing about it. If so, it may introduce punitive damages which would escalate the claim considerably.

The hotel security took many pictures of the bites. Later my sister-in-law took more pictures, because they had become so huge and swollen. Urgent care staff saw them, and also, my own clinic staff saw them. Now, today, we found out that my sister-in-law's phone is missing. If she does not get it back, am I going to be forced to drop this matter because we have no pictures? She may get it back...but if not...am I just down and out? This whole thing has been a nightmare, and this just added to it.

They do have their own pictures to refer to in my file...and I did take more pictures today, and they are still very visible, but not infected as they were earlier, due to the steroids, and the topical anti-itch cream and antibiotic ointment. Hopefully, these will be sufficient. They still itch, but the severe swelling has gone down. Is this still something I should pursue, or does the lack of pictures when the bites were at their worst negate my claim?

Wow! I was told how they an infiltrate your home...so I got professional advice. It involved, freezing the clothing, washing, then heating to a high temp and washing once again. The luggage will not be brought into my house. It was set outside in the hot AZ sun, as were my shoes, just in case. I have never experienced anything like this before...and bed bug bites are just horrible. They actually inject you with an anesthetic before they bite you, so you can't feel it and they can continue to feed on you!!! I had a very knowledgeable doctor. They are little vampires...and what they leave behind is horrendous.

A Google of "lawsuit bed bugs hotel" gets about 719,000 hits and many of them are lawyers. Including one that has a website specifically for bed bug lawsuits.
