Default Re: Minor Shoplifting at Big Y

What papers did you sign? Did you admit to the shoplifting?

There two separate things that may happen. The first is that you will receive a civil demand letter to pay damages. Massachusetts law permits the civil demand letter to ask for from $50 to $500. If you pay it, that is an admission to the crime of theft and is no guarantee that the second thing will not happen.

You still may be summoned to court for a hearing and can be charged with a crime. You can be arrested and have to defend yourself in court. And if you are arrested, you will have a permanent criminal record.

You should consult with a criminal lawyer before you do anything. And don't post anymore here that admits guilt.
