Post Can I Sue My Dentist for Causing Stitches Under My Tongue

My question involves malpractice in the state of: Texas.

I recently had one of my tooth extracted . During extraction the Dr was using an equipment which was holding my tongue aside as he worked on my tooth. He pushed it so hard that I received a cut under my tongue which needed 2-3 stitches by him.
I could not speak or eat for next 5 days due to the pain from my tongue.

Thank you in advance for your opinion .

    You healed up?
    No residual ill effects?
Probably worth a few hundred dollars.
No need to sue just yet.
Write him a letter blaming the injury on his negligence and demand that he compensate you for it.
See how that goes and come back to this thread and report.

I don't know that I agree, especially without seeing the consent form. This sort of injury can be a reasonable complication from tooth extractions just like there can be other issues that crop up during an appendectomy.

Malpractice doesn't provide a reward for pain and suffering, just to make the patient whole again. The dentist put in a few stitches (talk about am minor complication) to repair the damage and there likely isn't any permanent debilitating damage.

If I were your dentist I'd say I'm sorry but there really isn't anything I can do for you other than to provide numbing agents or painkillers for the injury. TO just write a check to make a patient feel better would be a terrible precedent.

The only reason why I am thinking of suing is because of his attitude . They never cared to follow up on how I was recovering. I my self went for a followup and he reacted as if it was a minor scratch .

I do understand the cut was not intentional but at the same time I did not find his attitude professional . I was lucky that only 3-4 stitches were needed, what if I lost my ability to speak if some major vein got cut. What measures are being taken to avoid this in near future for other patients ??

You can't sue and win for bad attitude. When you went back for the follow up was there any problem?

Not liking his attitude is not grounds for a malpractice suit. You didn't lose your ability to speak, a major vein didn't get cut, and you have no say in measures that may or may not be taken to avoid this complication for future patients of the practice.
