Before we were legalls separated my wife sold a van that was in both of our names. Is this legal?

Did she sign only her name on the title transfer, or did she also sign your name?

Whether or not she should have, she apparently did sell the vehicle. This was either an issue you addressed when later pursuing legal separation, or an issue you chose not to address at that time.
