Default How Can an Unqualified Person Become a Lawyer

My question relates to legal practice in the state of: Maryland

It doesn't seem right to me that someone needs to meet all of the specified requirements to practice law. Any thoughts on getting licensed without all this nonsense?

Huh? It is what it is dude. Youíre not going to be able to change it. The state doesnít want some yahoo uneducated fool claiming to be a lawyer having people put their lives in his hands. If you think a lawyer doesnít need the education and testing currently in place then youíre really wrong. Itís there to protect the clients

You have to meet all the requirements to practice medicine. You have to meet all the requirements to work as an architect. You have to meet all the requirements to be licensed as a CPA. Why should you be excused from meeting all the requirements to practice law?

I think that is pretty reasonable when you consider what is placed in their hands.
I'm not wondering if it's reasonable. I'm wondering if it's Constitutional.

I realize that for some reason this kind of notice is now generally deleted, but for benefits of those who might see it before it's deleted, check the OP's posting history

A few states, I have read in the past, permit non law school graduates to become Attorneys.

As a side note, there is nothing in the Constitution that mandates a Supreme Court nominee be an Attorney. Congress though gives weight to the ABA's grade, so to speak, of the nominee.

It is constitutional. Nothing about the states licensing requirements violates any provision of the U.S. or Maryland constitutions. It has long been established that states may regulate and license professions, including lawyers. If you don't know that then I suggest you are not yet knowledgeable enough to be a lawyer.
