Exclamation What Can You Do If You Can't Get Emancipated

If you can't get emancipated then what else is there to do? If you run away when you turn 17 to a state that allows you to move out of the house when you 17 without going through emancipation then can you get in trouble and can they make you come back to the original state (IN) and will you be in trouble with the law.

...and no, you cannot just runaway to a state where you think it is legal for a 17 year old to runaway. It's not runTO. Even if you go to a different state, you have still run away from the home in the state where it is illegal.

Question Re: What Can You Do If You Can't Get Emancipated

So what are you supposed to do in this situation. Sit there and be emotionally, mentally, and sometimes physically abused? It doesn't make sense to me. Wouldn't it be better be broke and emancipated than being in a hell hole?

If you are being abused it should be reported.

Have you discussed your problems with a school guidance counselor?

Report the abuse (ONLY if it is truly abuse and you are not just trying to come up with anything that you think will get you what you want.)

No court is going let a child live on his or her own if it seems that it there is a possibility or probability that that child will become dependent upon the generosity of others or rely upon the state for financial support. That's why you have parents.

The solution for an abusive home is not emancipation! the solution is reporting the abuse so the proper authorities can deal with the abuse. This would be Police and/or CPS. If the minor is fearful to make said report he/she can do so without giving their name or tell a mandated reporter such as mentioned (school counselor) If abuse is happening then its possible teh child will be removed from the home and place in foster care or in some situations another family member. CPS would then monitor the minors progress for a minimum of 30 days. If child is allowed to stay in home ro is returned CPS would monitor so the abuse does not continue!
