Angry Suspended Without Pay Because Co-Worker Alleges Sexual Harassment

A female co-worker (I am a male) whom I had for several years considered a trusted team-member and friend, has suddenly out of the blue filed allegations of sexual harassment against me to our company's HR department. She has also filed a police report alleging the same. I have been suspended from work without pay indefinitely, pending the outcome of HR's investigation into the matter.

I maintain 110% innocence against her baseless and outrageous allegations. Personally, I think she is experiencing some sort of psychotic-mental breakdown and has for whatever reason decided to viciously attack me. At the same time, I am losing money each day I am not working, and that is causing obvious and painful hardship for me.

Additionally, I am extremely concerned about the damage she is doing to my reputation amongst my other co-workers, and what implications this all may have for my career. I am also a licensed teacher in the state of Ohio, though I am not currently active. My concern here, however, is that this may develop into something that will result in damaging criminal charges or even my license being revoked, and I would like to prevent that from happening if at all possible. I need to fight back and defend myself!

I would like to know what my rights and options are. Is there some way I can counter-press charges with the police for false and baseless allegations? Could this be grounds for a slander and libel lawsuit? Could I sue my co-worker or the company itself for lost wages? Please advise and thanks.

You will, of course, want to see what the outcome of the HR investigation is. However; since she also made a police report, you might want to obtain a lawyer at this time to see what your "options" are.
