    Unhappy Emancipation Help

    I'm 16 years old female from Indiana and I'm trying to get emancipated! I live with my mom, sister, and grandparents. My mom is always saying I'm good for nothing and that I can't do anything right. I'm going to High School and I have a part time job. I get paid $6.00 an hour at a restaurant. I have a friend that I have known for a while now and he is 29 and has a house in Michigan. It's really hard to live with my mom especially since I have to buy alot of the things I need. My mom has bought me one pair of tennis shoes in almost 17 years. My grandma buys my shoes and clothes. i have to buy school supplies, some clothes, razors, and pads. Do you have anything you can tell me about this? Please help

    Indiana has no emancipation statute, but it may nonetheless be possible to convince a juvenile court to grant emancipation where the court finds:
    1. The petitioning minor wishes to be free from parental control and protection and no longer requires control and protection;

    2. The petitioning minor understands the consequences of being free from parental control and protection

    3. The petitioning minor has sufficient money for the child's own support; and

    4. The petitioning minor has an acceptable plan for independent living.
    I doubt that your income is sufficient to support the finding that you are capable of supporting yourself. Without a statute to reference, it is difficult to gauge what a judge might deem sufficient as a basis for emancipation. A local family lawyer may be able to help.

    The chances that a judge will emancipate a 16 year old, barely employed female so that she can go live with a 29 year old male range between none and none.

    I agree with cbg - I can't see a judge granting emancipation with you being 16 yrs. old to go out of state & live with a 29 yr. old. Also, do you really think you can make enough money at 16 to support yourself - you need to be continuing to go to school too.

    No, that isn't what jojo4 was talking about (jojo was referring to cbg's post).

    I agree with the others...
