If a bank account is overdrawn because of some checks that were deposited in my account would I be subject to arrest in Ca.
The checks that were deposited were returned, will I be able to make them good or will they call the police?

Do you mean that you deposited checks you believed to have been valid, but which were later dishonored, resulting in your bouncing some of the checks you subsequently wrote? I would suggest making good on the checks as quickly as you can.
None of my checks bounced. The checks I deposited did, this caused my account to be overdrawn.
I found this out from a old roomate that I gave a check to and when he went to the bank to cash it, they told him the check was not good and that the checking account will soon be closed.
Will they give me time to get the account back in good standings, or will they report this as a crime?
Please explain the situation better. You ended up with a negative balance, but no checks bounced because either none had been written or you have overdraft protection, and you were fortunate that your friend checked whether the check you wrote would clear before trying to cash it?
You can contact the bank to learn their policies, and how much time they will give you to bring your account back to a positive balance. You can expect that if you do not they will pursue whatever legal remedies they believe are appropriate, as well as reporting the negative balance to credit reporting agencies.
