In 2003, I found out by accident that there was a warrant out for my arrest.
As it turned out, an ex-boyfriend has falsely filed a felony larceny police report in the state of Michigan, in an attempt to extort $1000 from me. I live in Ohio and did at the time of this event.
I immediately went to Michigan Police on my own volition, to straighten this out. I was arrested and jailed for 4 hours--then I had a video arraignment and was released on my own recognizance. I had NEVER had any dealings with the law before for ANYTHING, and I am 50 years old.
At the hearing, the prosecutor dismissed the case in the best interests of justice, and that was that...or so I thought.
A few months ago, my employer found out about this and fired me, even though it was 4 years ago and I had been an award-winning employee since 2001, before this ever happened.
Even though I was not guilty and therefore not convicted, the ARREST record alone has cost me my past job and got me thrown out of the running for a very lucrative job last year. What can be done to erase the arrest record?
I was told tha in Michigan, you can only get a CONVICTION expinged...this makes no sense to e, that someone who actually DID do something wrong gets more chances than someone who DID NOT!! Please help me.
Thanks.
