Default Minor (Under 16) Working Too Many Hours

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: KY

My son is 15 and recently quit his job mainly because he was tired of not having any free time. It finally occurred to me to look up the labor laws for minors under 16 in KY. His former employer had him working 5-7 hour shifts on weekdays during the school year, sometimes not letting him off until after 10:00pm and he was working those hours up to 5 days a week. My question is, do we have any legal recourse at this point or was that forfeited once my son quit? If we do, what action can we take aside from notifying someone so that this doesn't happen to underaged employees going forward?

Why wouldn't you want to notify somebody who is positioned to take action against the employer of the violation?

You can report labor law violations to the Labor Cabinet.

I don't see where YOU or your son has any legal recourse even if he was still working there. By that I mean you aren't going to get a check from anyone.

The state may take action if you report the violation to them.

Nowhere did I say I wasn't going to report them. I said "aside from" meaning in addition to, because I've already done that.

You do realize that as the child's parent you could have stopped him from working so many hours even if it wasn't counter to state law?

No. There is no additional action you can take other than reporting it to the proper authorities.
