Default Can You Disown a Parent

A sixteen-year-old wants to disown her mother in order to end her mother's custody rights, so that she can live with her father. Her parents are divorced. Her mother's home is unstable.

Is there a process that she can follow to disown one of her parents?

Default Re: Can You Disown a Parent

There is no legal process for a child to disown a parent.

The matter is a child custody matter between the parents until the child reaches the age of 18. Once she is a legal adult, she can decide where she lives no matter what her parents custody order or a custody court may say.
