Default Recovery of Medical Expenses When a Driver Who Hits You is Underinsured

What can you do if you're in a car accident, and the driver who rear-ends you does not carry enough insurance to cover your medical bills? What are your remedies if you're injured by an inadequately insured driver? This is in the State of Maryland.

    Read this article.

I assume that you mean that the driver was insured, but at a low level. (e.g., the state minimum of $30K in liability coverage.)

If you have underinsured motorist coverage, then you can make a claim through that coverage. If you do not, then you need to try to find other sources of insurance coverage, or hope that the driver has assets that can be reached through litigation or settlement that will cover your expenses.
