    If a family member's death occurs on the high seas, do you have to file a claim under the Death on the High Seas Act or can you file a wrongful death claim under state law?

    For a death that occurs on the high seas, a claim under the Death on the High Seas Act (DOHA) is the sole remedy available to the family. There are very few exceptions to that rule.
