A servicemember wanted to get out of the Marines, so he faked a suicide attempt and blamed it on a divorce and bitter custody battle. However there was no divorce case and no custody battle. He got an involuntary discharge with medical benefits.

If his misrepresentations are reported, investigated and found to be false, he can potentially be criminally prosecuted under the UCMJ and could lose his benefits. The process that the Marines might follow could include prosecution through federal law enforcement, or calling him back into active duty for military prosecution.
