Yesterday, 4/10/07 I received a letter from a collection agency in Illinois. I live in Tennessee. It stated that in 1996 I had a phone sercive with Verizon North in Greencastle Indiana and the bill was for $218. This did not sound familiar to me so I called immediately. The lady said it was from an old phone bill from GTE-Bell North and Verizon bought them out. I do not remember such a phone service however it is 11 years ago and I really do not remember. The lady said I had 30 days to either disprove the bill or show why I should not pay it and if not they will put it on my credit report, which I do not want. Is there a statute of limitaitons here? I thought it credit reports can only show deragatory information for 7 yrs? I am not sure what to do at this point? Any advice is appriciated,
Thanks
Billy
