Physical abuse is a relatively easy thing to prove, but how does one prove emotional abuse?

Emotional abuse isn't necessarily illegal.
I believe a forensic psychiatrist would be the guy to look for. Could be a forensic psychologist but I believe it would be the psychiatrist.
Emotional abuse is hard to prove + even though it is unfair, normally it is not a crime.
That's true but it can still be hard to prove - cases based on "her word against his" are especially difficult. Also, there is no guarantee that the victim will obtain healing or closure by bringing litigation. It can sometimes also be prolonged, very stressful & even expensive.
absolutely.
a legal battle could even cause greater injury and there is no promise of prevailing in any suit, which, again, could cause even more harm.
Actually emotional abuse can be very easy to prove (in some situations). Witnesses can testify to actions considered abusive.
INJURY is the harder to prove and quantify.
I'll agree with that.
