I moved into a condo in Florida that which is currently undergoing conversation. I am only renting for a year not buying. Like most condos I had to pass a credit check, background check as well as pay a $600 nonrefundable pet deposit for my 2 mini pinschers. I have only been living in this place for a week when my upstairs neighbor called the cops on me (on Easter nonetheless!) the officer told me the neighbor said my dogs were barking for hours and hours and he couldn't take it anymore. The cop said there was not much he could do and that he didn't witness or hear the barking while he was there. I went to the management office the following day and was told that he has also written a letter to them about the barking and that they would be sending me some type of seven day letter(no idea what that would be) and that if he was to complain again they could evict me.
To try to remedy the situation, I no longer allow my dogs on the balcony(and told the office i would be doing so to try and help) so they will not bark at other dogs/people walking by and I try to stop any barking I feel is incessant. I am unsure what position I am in concerning the eviction. If he does complain again, can I really be evicted for a barking dog? Would there have to be some kind of witness to see that the barking is truly unruly and violates peaceful living? Surely, there is some expected noise when you live in a community that allows animals? I have no idea what to do in this situation!! Please help!
